Fish frys on Friday nights are quintessential Americana, especially during Lent, which began with Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Both those who observe the holiday and those who do not but simply enjoy going out for a meal with family and friends come together during this time all across the nation.

Fish frys are popular in both bars and restaurants, but arguably most popular at local VFW posts.
